The mission of the Sunny Lane Youth ministry is “To be and make disciples of Christ in authentic community for the benefit of the world.”
We have Five areas of Focus:
Discipleship, Evangelism, Service, Fellowship, Worship
Our focus ministries include:
- Sunday School (Sundays — 9:30am-10:40am)
Sunday School is exactly what it sounds like: time taken on Sunday morning to teach our youth how to follow Jesus. This discipleship program has existed in many churches since the late 18th century, and God has continued to bless it so that it might be it a thriving, vital, life giving ministry here at Sunny Lane UMC as well. - Glow Worship (Sundays — 4:00pm-6:00pm)
GLOW is our middle school worship program. GLOW is an acronym for “God Loves Our Worship.” Typically, it involves elements of worship, discipleship, and fellowship. Modern music, culturally relevant messages, and fun games are used to break down walls and help students get in tune with the Holy Spirit. - Fresh Lunch (Mondays — 11:50am-12:10pm)
Fresh Lunch is an evangelism program in which we offer free lunch to the freshmen at Del City high school. Many (but certainly not all) of these students do not regularly attend any church, which means that it is an amazing opportunity to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who are less likely to have heard it. - Team Adam and Eve (Wednesdays — 5:30pm-6:59pm)
Team Adam and Team Eve are the names of our middle school small group ministries. Team Adam is our ministry for boys while Team Eve is our ministry for girls. Both are times when youth may meet in smaller groups for the purpose of being discipled and sharing the experiences of their own faith journeys. The purpose of these groups is primarily discipleship and fellowship. - SOURCE (Wednesdays &emdash; 7:01pm-8:29pm)
SOURCE is our primary worship program for high school students. It is a time during the week when students can take time to get in touch with the SOURCE of all things; that is, God! (Get it?) It also uses modern music, culturally relevant messages, and fun games to break down walls and help students get in tune with the Holy Spirit. The primary purpose of SOURCE is worship, discipleship, and fellowship. - Confirmation (Seasonal)
Confirmation is a course designed to help youth become active members of the community of Christ. During this program, students learn the importance of having a relationship with Christ, the basics of Christian theology, and the history of the Christian church. In the Methodist tradition (of which we are a part), confirmation is also a time where we learn about the life of John Wesley, including his teachings on justification, sanctification, and Christian perfection. And, of course, we cover his quadrilateral as well!
In addition to these fine programs, we do a number of other events throughout the year, including our mission trip, 30 Hour Famine, Pie in the Face, Youth Force, Disciple Camp, Journey Camp, and Dayspring Camp. For more info, make sure to check out the calendar!
